Imagine a world where girls invent flying cars and boys sit at home. Doesn\u2019t this sound like a weird dream? This sounds weird because of the gender stereotypes in the minds of people. They think girls can only do easy household work like cooking and boys can do tough work like flying planes or making machines.
Once, a girl named Rokeya imagined such a strange dreamland. She called it \u2018Ladyland\u2019. Her dream changed and inspired the lives of women in India. Let us read why every girl should be inspired by Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain.
Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain, also known as Begum Rokeya, was a feminist, educationist, and writer. She was born in 1880 in Pairaband, which is now in Bangladesh. She was stopped from learning English by her family. They believed that by learning English she will develop modern thoughts and ideas. This was considered a bad thing in those times, especially in Muslim families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But Rokeya couldn\u2019t be stopped. She learned English and Bangla from her elder brother and sister. She had a big dream and vision in mind. Why should only boys be allowed to go to school, learn English, drive cars, and invent things?
So, in 1905 when she was 25 years old, she wrote a book called \u2018Sultana\u2019s Dream\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her book, Sultana is a girl who has a strange dream. Women drive flying cars in the air and invent solar cookers and cloud condensers. They freely go to school, study, and work outside home. In her imaginary \u2018Ladyland\u2019, men were put in isolation and controlled by the powerful minds of women.
One day, Rokeya decided to turn her dream into reality. She helped hundreds of girls and women get an education. In 1910, she built the Sakhawat Memorial School in Kolkata. It wasn\u2019t easy. She had to plead with people to send their girls to school. It was difficult to change their mindset, but Rokeya didn\u2019t look back. She bravely fought for women\u2019s rights, education and jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
