What if our houses were made of glass walls? How will we change our clothes? We will have no privacy because everyone can see inside our house.

Last year, 690 billion units of glass were used to make our windows, bottles, aquariums and other objects. What if these objects were made of metal? Will we be able to see the colourful fishes in the aquarium? There are different transparent, translucent, and opaque objects around us. Let us tell you the unknown truths about these objects we bet you didn’t know. 

• Jellyfish is transparent. We can see through its jelly-type transparent body in water. That is why they are invisible to big fishes. Air, water and glass are other examples of transparent objects.

• Have you seen a double rainbow? When light passes two times through transparent water drops, it forms two rainbows.   

• You cannot see through paper. It is opaque. But you can see a little bit through greased paper. When oil is spilled on paper, it fills the gaps between the paper fibres and makes it translucent. Little bit of light can pass through it now but you cannot see clearly. 

• Rice Paper is not made of rice. This translucent object is made of trees and is used in craft and cooking. Other examples of translucent objects are sunglasses and coloured plastic.

• Mirrors are opaque. You cannot see through them because their back side is painted. The largest natural mirror is ‘Salar De Uyuni’. 

• Trees can talk. They can send signals to each other about dangers like insects and diseases. Wood, trees, cardboard and metals are examples of opaque objects.
