2. The winnowing fan is raised to a height in the wind’s direction and tilted.

3. When the wind blows, rice crops and other substances like chaff and husk fall down.
4. The rice falls nearer to the fan because it is heavy. The husk, chaff and hull fall away because they are light.
   So, winnowing method is the process of separating heavy and light substances from a mixture with the help of air or wind. The impure substances are thrown away. The rice thus separated is cleaned and packed into packets. These packets of rice are sold in the market.
